Emerging Artist Series - A year later with Brandon Stanley

Emerging Artist Series - A year later with Brandon Stanley

In August 2021, GALLERY500 debuted our Emerging Artist Series with our inaugural interview of Daytona Beach Photographer Brandon Stanley. Now, a year later, we decided to catch up with Brandon to see where his fine art career is now.
It’s been a year since we first interviewed you for GALLERY500’s Emerging Artist Series. What have you been up to this past year?
First off, thanks for having me back! This past year proved quite a roller-coaster. Thanks to my girlfriend's occupation, I have had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii and California and a few other locations. During one of those trips, the water housing leaked and destroyed my camera while shooting photos at Sandy's Beach in Oahu.  Unfortunately, this left me without a camera for several months. During that time I mostly lifeguarded and saved for a new camera. Now that I have a new camera, I am back in action.
I know you have traveled a bit. Where is your favorite place you went to?

Each location offers unique scenery and certainly different waves; however, I think only a few locations on earth can compete with Hawaii - so I would have to say that is my favorite.

We have showcased most of your wave photography but you love to photograph more than waves. What other scenes seem to catch your eye?

I am a huge fan of racing (grew up watching Nascar and racing go-karts) both cars and motorcycles. photographing racing scenes allows me to get super close to another passion of mine. I am also a sucker for the occasional nature photo.

How do you think the Emerging Artist Series has affected your career?

Emerging Artist series gave me a foundation to establish myself from. Not only did it give me the confirmation of my work, but also the confidence to continue photographing waves.

What does an emerging artist mean to you?

Someone special- there are hundreds if not thousands of artists out there so to have a gallery say hey, you are new to the artist world but we see what you are doing means the world.

What advice would you give to up-and-coming artists?

Keep working, push yourself, and know that regardless of whether or not people appreciate your work if you love doing it, don't quit or get discouraged.

You have an upcoming event with Gallery500 coming up. Tell me more.

[I am] really stoked about it. We will be trading artists with another local gallery Frame of Mind for a month.  Artists from FOM will hang in GALLERy500 and vice versa. The opening reception is Saturday, August 6th from 3 - 7 PM at Frame of Mind during the Ormond Beach Art Walk. Later in the month, Gallery500 will host the closing reception at the gallery, August 26th, 5 - 7 PM.

I also hear you will be showing at the ONE DAYTONA Art Festival. What can we expect from that event?

I will certainly be there! you expect a ton of phenomenal artists from all over...probably my favorite events of the year.

Where can people find your work?

At GALLERY500 of course. My Instagram and Facebook @brandonstanleyphotography contain a majority of my shots-all of which can be ordered through the gallery.
