Collection: William (Bill) Chapin

An architect by trade, Bill Chapin has accomplished many things in his career before becoming an artist. In 1966 he graduated Virginia University with a Bachelor of Architecture before enlisting in the U.S. military until 1970. In the army, he was the Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers and later was discharged with Captain ranking.

Starting with his time in the military, Bill led many large construction projects such as a discharge building in Thailand and the Walter Reed Hospital. He has also led the construction for our OceanWalk, Bethune Cookman University, the Hyatt & Cici Brown Museum and led reconstruction of the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences. Beyond his projects, Bill also served as the National President of the American Institute for Architects (AIA), which represents the majority of licensed architects in the country, leading him to visit over half of the 50 states and travel to 8 foreign countries, meeting with world leaders to discuss and educate on international practice issues around health and sustainability.

As a sculptor now, Bill uses his architect background and as well as found objects to expertly construct strong abstract pieces meant to be placed inside or outside, even constructing pieces up to 15 feet.
